Denehys
Hi all, I'm quiet a noob in comparison of most of you but I need some help...This is the third time I die with the hounds attack around the 34th days. This is the end of the first winter.. during the summer I have explored, prepared the first winter, with10+ berry bushes, 9 chest, material in chest, 18 rabbits in chest, winter hat, heat stone and all the stuff you can build for your beginning all day and evening, I built a complete stone wall around my "castle", I fighted the 3 (or 4?) first wave of hounds, I have 3 ,or 4 if i m lucky, traps (with their teeths) and I "enjoyed" the winter... etc...AND ... after all the winter with a complete lack of activity... there is the "winter is coming" hounds attack...8+ hounds with a special one... my 3/4 traps are like tickles for them and I have no time to place any attack without being injured... and I died.. without any luck to kill one or two of them. Could you explain me what is the trick ? what s the AOE massiv weapon I need to build ?I don't know this attack seems SO different of my stuff/capacities...It was really different with all my other dumb death... I was happy to learn something and try it better... but in this case.. I don't know I'm almost want to quit and stop the game. wdfoster
Well, i always make sure my camp is near a beefalo herd. They are 24/7 hound protection. Pigs are good, but they go inside at night. Just relocate your base within running distance of a beefalo herd. You should be able to run over there, shake the hounds, and they will aggro toward the herd which make short work of all the hounds.Thats the thing about this game, there are no uberz weapz. Its your mind. That said, i do have a cluster of 200 or so tooth traps near my camp. It deals with any hounds or deercl... oh wait... I'll let you find out on your own about that one. GuGonce
If you can't fight it,make something do it for you. The best option is Beefalo,in my opinion. I use them a lot until i have a decent amount of tooth traps. Pigs are good too,but only if the attack was on day. If you are near a swamp, tentacles and merms can an option too,but it's very risky. Or,if you just can't find anything to kill them. Go very far of your camp when you hear their noise, and then run until they give up on you. One or another will still follow you but if you manage to get to day 34,then you can kill 3 hounds... Dr. Derpenstein
Pigmen, walking cane, and just about anything you can get to run from those hounds.Be warm beforehand, and run until the hounds lose interest and attack something else. Anything that attacks back can do wonders.List: Pigmen, frogs, rock lobsters, bunnymen, tentacles, spiders, beefalo, koalefant, and more! Some things work better than others, experiment! On day 34 you really shouldn't be getting that many hounds though. Tulingu
Could you explain me what is the trick? I usually camp near pigmen, and if they aren't there to aid me I simply bring those hounds on a little afternoon stroll! Bring the hounds to the nearest spider den, frog pond, pengull group, beefalo herd, bee nest, merm/tentacle party or pretty much anything that hates hounds That will fix the problem quickly. If hounds attack during the night I craft some torches and do the same thing, if I get lost I bring up my map. I don't even bother crafting tooth traps and all that. I played until day 180 like this, then I got bored and did adventure mode instead =D Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/30755-help-34th-days-hounds-attack/#findComment-399487 Share on other sites
the truthseeker
The trick is to prepare BEFORE they arrive. The show up around every 4-7 days and as you have noticed by the third wave, the day range decreases and the hound number increases. Soon, when you hit triple-digit-days, they will come every two to three days and in waves of 5! it's best you start making tooth traps out of those teeth they drop and have them grouped together, but in a place where they do not get accidentally triggered all the time but not too out of the way, yet far enough away from your base if the red ones who catch on fire when they die burn up everything. If your tooth drops are bad, hunt winter hounds in the winter, especially MacTusk camps! Until then, use Pigs, Beefalo, frogs, even smack a beehive and let the killer bees you ran until not interested in you kill them are your hound deterrents. (If you simply can't put on armor/helmets and a spear/tentacle spike/ham bat [HIGHLY recommended you make ASAP and keep making when it rots] and kill them yourself!) Your end goal is to make a stone kill room and corridor (with tooth traps in a narrow corridor and/or at the end) where they run to their death single file and you kill them as you see fit. NikMik
The trick is to prepare BEFORE they arrive. The show up around every 4-7 daysI thought it was every 6-12. Is more me, at least. Until I get up to day 90 or so, then it's every 3-6. FisherSimple
Treeguard will be a good place to start. I usually cut some trees and make the treeguard pop out, and then get rid of it. Of course, if it is a little difficult to get rid of the treeguard, you can hire piggies to chop wood for you. The treeguard will chase pigman instead of you. When pigmen are dead, the treeguard will wonder around, remember its location. When the hounds show up, take the hounds to the treeguard, and it will help you tackle the bad dogs. One strike a hound, its attack is very effective. Another thing is, don't try to tackle the hounds at night. Circling around a campfire or fleeing with a torch are good choices. I usually creep into the tent as soon as I get the warning. When its daytime, I will have a lot of time to play with the dogs.
